Equipment

  • High-speed blender or juicer
  • Fine-mesh strainer, optional
  • 2 glasses

Ingredients

  • 7 ounces (200 g) carrots , about 3 medium carrots
  • 2 medium apples
  • ½–1 inch fresh ginger , peeled
  • 2½ cups (20 fl oz) orange juice

Instructions

  • Prepare the produce. Wash 7 ounces (200 g) carrots and 2 medium apples thoroughly. Peel the carrots if they are large or have a rough exterior. Trim the carrot ends. Core the apples and cut them into chunks. Peel ½–1 inch fresh ginger and chop it finely.
  • Add the ingredients to the blender. Pour 2½ cups (20 fl oz) orange juice into a high-speed blender first. Add the carrots, apples and ginger.
  • Blend. Blend on high until the mixture is as smooth as possible. If your blender struggles to move the ingredients, stop, scrape down the sides and blend again. Add a little more orange juice if necessary.
  • Strain, if desired. For a smoother juice, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Press the pulp gently with a spoon or spatula to extract as much juice as possible. For an extra-smooth juice, strain it through cheesecloth or a nut milk bag.
  • Taste and serve. Taste the juice and add a little more ginger or orange juice if desired. Serve immediately, chilled or over ice.

Notes

If using a juicer

Feed the carrots, apples and ginger through your juicer according to the manufacturer's instructions. Stir in the orange juice afterward. No additional straining is necessary.

Notes

  • Adjust the ginger: Start with ½ inch if you prefer a mild ginger flavor. Use up to 1 inch or more for a stronger kick.
  • Make it smoother: A juicer gives you the smoothest result. With a blender, strain the juice through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth if you don't want pulp.
